At the beginning of the twentieth century, a stupendous building was designed to celebrate the British Empire, which was then nearing the height of its power. It failed to win the support of the country’s political leaders, and so nothing came of it. Alistair Lexden’s account of this extraordinary project has been published in the June/July edition of The London Magazine, a publication to which he is a regular contributor. A copy of the article is attached.
