On 27 March, the Lords debated and passed three Northern Ireland Bills which would have been dealt with by the devolved Northern Ireland Assembly if it had been sitting.  Fifteen months have now passed since it last met and transacted business.

Alistair Lexden always makes a point of contributing to debates on Northern Ireland in which he has taken a close interest for fifty years-- from the Unionist standpoint. On this occasion the theme of his speech was Parliament’s duty to provide directly for the good governance of the Province in the absence of its devolved institutions.
