The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in London, famous for its high academic achievements, has for some years been at risk of damaging change at the hands of the Catholic diocesan authorities in Westminster. It has now been saved from that fate.

In the second week of October, interviews took place to choose a new head for the school. It seemed unlikely that serious consideration would be given to either of two outstanding internal candidates who could be relied on to maintain the traditions of the school.

On October 12 a change of heart suddenly occurred among the governors and one of  these leading candidates, who commands the full support of parents, was appointed.

Lord Lexden helped to ensure that the strongest candidates were not bypassed.
