At question time in the Lords on February 11, Alistair Lexden suggested that “perhaps the time has come to consider reintroducing compulsory milk in our schools” in response to the widespread concern about the state of some children’s health.

Support was expressed on the cross-benches. The Education Minister, Lord Nash, said “consideration” would be given to the suggestion by the Education Department. Follow the link to see the exchanges in the Lords: Hansard

Afterwards Alistair Lexden put down a question for written answer asking about the amount of milk supplied in schools today as compared to 30 years ago.

The discussion in the Lords was noted in The Times Educational Supplement and The Daily Telegraph online.
