Young people and the referendum

Millions of people who are eligible to vote are not on the electoral registers. The problem of under-registration is particularly acute among those aged 18 to 24.

A dynamic organisation, Bite The Ballot, was set up in 2010 to increase political interest among the young in general and to tackle the under-registration problem in particular.

As the last day for registering to vote in the referendum, June 7, approaches, Bite The Ballot is seeking a major increase in the number of young voters.

Alistair Lexden praised the organisation’s work and pressed the government to step up its efforts in a short debate on this urgent issue which was held in the Lords on May 26.
