The devolution of extensive powers from Westminster to devolved bodies in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland has profound constitutional implications. They were addressed in two important reports by the Constitution Committee of the House of Lords, of which Alistair Lexden was a member from 2012 to 2015.

In a debate on the reports in the Lords on 9 October, he criticised the government’s inadequate response to the Committee’s recommendations and strongly supported one of its key conclusions: “The UK Government needs fundamentally to reassess how it approaches issues relating to devolution.”
