A year has now passed since the Wiltshire police brought to an end their much-criticised investigation of child sex abuse allegations against Sir Edward Heath, known as Operation Conifer. Seven unsubstantiated allegations were left unresolved.

Alistair Lexden has on a number of occasions called for an independent inquiry in order to secure justice for Ted Heath. He has wide support on all sides in the Lords. He renewed his call in an oral question on 11 October.

The government has the power to take action, but prefers to allow a foul slur to remain on the reputation of a dead prime minister. The Lords continues to insist that it must change its deplorable attitude.
