Lord Lexden receives assurances on the inspection of independent schools

In 2000, when he was General Secretary of the Independent Schools Council, Alistair Lexden established the Independent Schools Inspectorate under terms agreed with the then Labour government. Inspections undertaken by the Inspectorate are detailed, rigorous and attuned to the particular circumstances of independent schools. The results are monitored by Ofsted.

The government has been considering significant changes to the well-tried system. Alistair Lexden put down a number of written questions to the government. As a result it has made clear that radical changes are not being contemplated  (see attached letter).
