On November 20 the Lords Select Committee on the Constitution, of which Lord Lexden is a member, published the results of a detailed inquiry into the accountability of civil servants.
The report challenges those who want to give politicians much more control over senior civil service appointments. It also backs the right of committees in the Commons to seek whatever information they require, arguing that “ it is for Parliament to determine how it scrutinises the executive”.
