On 29 April, Alistair Lexden presented prizes to 33 students from independent sixth-form colleges belonging to the Council for Independent Education (CIFE), of which he is President.
In a short address before the presentation of prizes, he said: “Today’s ceremony is the latest in a long line, held annually in the House of Lords. We are here to salute the outstanding academic—and wider community—achievements of leading students from the various CIFE colleges.
"The afternoon belongs above all to them. But they have alongside them people who have contributed immensely to their success, as I am sure they would be the first to acknowledge.
"I refer of course to the members of their families, who have helped sustain them through their love and who have joined them here this afternoon, along with their teachers, specialists in a wide array of different subjects, who make the CIFE colleges in different parts of our country academic powerhouses, from which today’s brilliant prize-winners have emerged.”
